Size: 150m2
Year: 2024
This project exemplifies adaptive reuse in a rural context, leveraging Class R planning permissions to repurpose an agricultural building into a vibrant commercial space within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The transformation of the former steel-framed haulage structure into a Yoga Studio addresses both aesthetic and functional challenges imposed by the framework’s height and the 150m² floor area limitation.
A clever spatial design was required to provide the studio’s needs with supplementary amenities for the associated campsite, maximizing efficiency within the dimensional constraints.
A key element of the conversion included structural testing and strengthening. The existing steel frame underwent rigorous assessments to ensure its capability to support the new use as a habitable building.
Integrated the building into the landscape with timber cladding softens the industrial aesthetic of the original structure, harmonizing the building with its picturesque surroundings and adhering to the National Park's visual standards.
This sensitive yet innovative approach reflects a commitment to sustainability, blending functionality with respect for the local environment.
This is due for completion in Spring 2025.
