The CB Inn, located in Arkengarthdale, is a popular destination for dining, accommodation, and events, including weddings, making it a central hub in the Dales. However, the remote location and a shortage of local staff have made recruitment increasingly challenging. To address this, the proposed scheme aims to provide on-site staff accommodation, including a Manager’s House, enabling recruitment from a wider geographical area.
The accommodation plan offers flexible living arrangements, catering to various staffing needs:
The design is thoughtfully divided into three distinct sections, ensuring the building integrates harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. A single-storey section with a grass roof connects the two two-storey structures, minimizing visual impact and preserving the stunning views across the valley. This approach also gives the development a domestic scale, helping it blend into the rural setting.
Traditional materials, characteristic of the Yorkshire Dales, have been chosen to complement the area’s natural beauty, ensuring the new building enhances, rather than detracts from, the local environment. This development not only addresses staffing issues but also reflects a sensitive approach to design in this picturesque region.
